This year the book "exhibit" at the SCCR/SASci annual meeting will be run as a benefit to contribute to scholarships for New Orleans college students. As you may know, all the colleges and universities in New Orleans are still struggling two years after Katrina/Rita. So we came up with the following idea. We will solicit relevant books from various publishers to exhibit at the conference. But we need your help, too. WE'RE ASKING EVERY CONFERENCE ATTENDEE TO BRING ALONG ONE BOOK TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE EXHIBIT/BENEFIT.
Your book can be new or old - (preferably a scholarly book, but not necessarily) - please just bring something you expect someone would pay $10 to own. On the last day of the conference, we?ll sell off all the books, and all proceeds will go to local scholarships (unsold books will be donated to local universities).
You'll also be able to donate to this fund if you like, whether or not you buy books). This is one way we can help New Orleans and its students. To donate now to the benefit fund, go to the SCCR website:

We are also looking for a locally owned New Orleans bookstore to sell its books on-site at the conference - this will also benefit the local economy and community.
