UCLA, P-T Lecturer Human Complex Systems

Position: The Interdepartmental Degree Program in Human Complex Systems at the University of California, Los Angeles

( HYPERLINK http://www.hcs.ucla.edu)invites applications for a part-time lecturer position in our Human Complex Systems (Minor) Degree Program. The lectureship is at 25% time, for two quarters beginning January 1, 2008 and ending June 30, 2008 with possibility of extension, depending on funding. The lecturer will assist instruction in an upper-division course in the foundations of complexity science and co-instruct a journal club seminar in human complex systems and organize its accompanying quarterly conference.

Qualifications: Minimum one year, prior undergraduate instruction in non-linear dynamics and complexity science for social science majors, including physical, biological, socio-cultural and organizational systems. Experience in the design and presentation of conferences/symposia in the natural and social sciences, including complex systems.

Texas A&M University. Cultural Anthropologist. Asst. Prof. Tenure Track

The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a position in cultural anthropology beginning Fall 2008. This is a tenure-track assistant professor position. The candidate's work should be empirical and quantitative; ethnographic field work experience is essential. Specialty is open, but a focus on evolutionary approaches to behavior and culture, ecology, demography, economics, or reproduction is preferred. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Anthropology (by Fall 2008), teaching experience, an active research program, and a demonstrated ability to secure external funding. ABDs may be considered. Responsibilities include teaching two courses per semester, at the graduate and undergraduate level in the anthropology department. Positive tenure and promotion decisions require a strong research and publication record, evidence of high-quality teaching, and participation in university governance.

Texas A&M University is a leading public research university with nearly 45,000 students. Macalester College: Biol. Anthropologist, Asst. Prof., Tenure Track

Assistant Professor, Biological Anthropology, Tenure Track Macalester College

The Department of Anthropology at Macalester College invites applications for a tenure track position in biological anthropology at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall, 2008. Applicants should have the Ph.D. in hand by time of appointment, substantial fieldwork experience and show promise of sound scholarship.

The department seeks a candidate broadly trained in the four fields; specialization open. Candidates should be prepared to teach introductory four-field courses in anthropology. The ability to teach quantitative methods and/or medical anthropology is a plus.

University of Utah - Bio-cultural, Asst. or Assoc. Prof., Tenure Track

The Department of Anthropology, University of Utah, seeks a bio-cultural anthropologist for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level. The successful candidate will have an active research program that uses evidence to evaluate theoretically-motivated hypotheses.

Ethnographic field experience is strongly desired. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to help graduate students get access to the field, and who are skilled in both quantitative and qualitative methods. Area of specialization is open, but concentration on health-related issues is a plus.

U. Florida, Medical Anthropologist, Asst. Prof, Tenure Track

University of Florida, Department of Anthropology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in medical anthropology at the rank of assistant professor. We are seeking a theoretically and methodologically rigorous scholar with a demonstrated record of scholarly publication and externally funded research. Geographical area of specialization is open, but candidates will be expected to complement and build on the expertise of the department. Approaches may include ethnographic, applied, biocultural, ecological, and political-economic. Expertise in research design and field methods is required. Substantive interests include, but are not limited to, environmental health, nutritional anthropology, global health, gender and sexuality, violence, ecology of infectious disease, and life course perspectives. We expect candidates to have strong teaching and mentoring skills and a willingness to address the needs of a large undergraduate population. An interest in program building and working across disciplines to collaborate with other units on campus is also desirable.

With 34 full-time faculty and over 30 affiliated faculty from other centers and departments, 200 graduate students and 680 undergraduate majors, the UF Department of Anthropology is among the largest and top-ranked anthropology departments in the nation. The department supports a holistic, four-field approach to anthropology with a strong commitment to field and laboratory research.
