About SASci

The Society for Anthropological Sciences (SASci) was organised to promote empirical research and social science in anthropology. The members of SAS want to further the development of anthropological science as empirical knowledge based on testable theory, sound research design and systematic methods for the collection and analysis of data. We seek to fulfill the historic mission of anthropology to describe and explain the range of variation in human biology, society, and culture across time and space.

SASci welcomes any papers that involve anthropological science or that speak to the role of science in anthropology.  SASci intends that these general scholarly meetings especially will provide a relaxed and focused environment within which participants can exchange views, analytic and research methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and other matters of research and teaching interest.    Adequate discussion time for exploring issues raised by papers will be an important part of our sessions.  We particularly invite symposia that explore some particular research approach or topic--whether with the goal of exchanging findings, approaches, and techniques with other specialists or with the goal of sharing the findings of some focused group with the wider anthropological community.
